A Q&A-game with my Max, who wil now be blogging on CATS & DOGS, too.
My sweeties, today, I really have got some exciting news for you: my love Max, whom you already know from my Instastories and Instagram @catsanddogsblog but also from this YSL beauty post and from this interior article, will be much more present on the blog from now on, writing articles and telling you his own stories.
Why we’ve decided to grow and put Max not only behind, but also in front of the camera? Well, easy: he’s got a lot to say, has a great sense for style in every sense, he know the blogging world from the other side and finally, we’ve also got a good reason why this blog is called CATS & DOGS – he’s the dog, I’m the cat, obviously.
And since we thought that a small interview would be the best way for you all to get to know Max a little better and to introduce him, I asked my love 10 questions which he took the time to answer. You’ll find the interview just a little bit further down.
Do you have any more questions for Max? And how do you like the idea that we’ll be blogging together on CATS & DOGS from now on? Perhaps, you’ll even have specific men-topics that really interest you or your better halves? Do let me know in the comment section!
10 questions for Max:
1.How did you become a photographer? And was that always what you wanted to be?
No, funnily enough, I really never wanted to become a photographer from the beginning. That’s a big difference to many of my colleagues who were ambitious hobby photographers before they become professionals. No, initially, I only wanted to skate!
But after school, I first of all trained to become an electro-mechanical engineer – a training which gave me lots of insight into topics like technology and craft, but I felt that this wasn’t it, you know? But then, chance came and through a friend, I got the chance to do an internship at an advertising photographer’s studio where later, I also got to do my second training to become a professional photographer and cameraman. Finally, I knew what I wanted to be!
After three years of training, I moved to Dusseldorf where I directly started working as a fashion- and beauty photographer in large studios. Since 2009, I’ve been working as a freelance photographer and cameraman.
2. How did you meet Ricarda and learned about CATS & DOGS?
Ricarda and I first met in summer 2014 in Berlin. Back then, I was booked by a beauty brand called Shiseido to document a blogger event on video. Ricarda was invited as a blogger to this event and there, we first met and talked.
After that, we met a couple of times by chance and then, at some point, also privately for a coffee in Berlin. In this way, I slowly got to know more about Ricarda and CATS & DOGS and well, as chance wants, now we’re living together in Dusseldorf.
3. What interests you most about blogs and blogging?
What most interests me about blogs is the editorial freedom and personal view on all things. It’s impressive how full-time bloggers nowadays can live off their favourite hobby. That’s a great thing!
4. What annoys you most about blogs and blogging? What are the things you’d change?
Most of the time, I’m missing decent standards on blogs. No matter if if’s low standards regarding the picture quality or the writing, this is something that really annoys me because it could easily be done so much better.
But that’s also what I really like about CATS & DOGS: Ricarda always had and still has the highest standards towards herself and her posts and I hope I’ll be able to keep this high standard up in my own posts as well. And I really hope you’ll like my articles!
5. What topics are you planning to introduce to CATS & DOGS in the future?
My interests are many, so the readers of CATS & DOGS can look forward to lots of topics: men’s fashion, men’s beauty, tech-stuff, craftsmanship, sports and in addition to all that, I’d love to write my own column where I can talk about my own opinions on the world and things currently on my mind.
6. Which value will you add to CATS & DOGS? What will change with you on board?
Generally, CATS & DOGS will get a lot more topics which will hopefully be really exciting for both old and new readers. It’s a big step for CATS & DOGS to grow in this way and I hope that this will be a positive development for all sides. Anyway, I’m sure lots of things will stay the same, the readers will only get MORE input, more stories, more topics and more posts!
7. Which topics and persons inspire you on a daily basis?
I’m inspired by many lifestyle-blogs and some selected skill bloggers. One of my biggest blogging here is Phillip Bloom, who talks about camera tech in the most funny, exciting and understandable way. Great British humor and competence.
8. Some favourite brands and labels?
I’m a heavy user of L’Oréal Professionnel, Kiehl’s, Biotherm and Shiseido beauty products, but also of many more. Concerning fashion, I love wearing Carhartt, Vans and Adidas in my free time and when I’m behind the camera. Furthermore, I love accessories by Persol, Daniel Wellington or Victorinox, but there are also so many more brands that really interest me…
9. Some advice for other blogger-boyfriends and -husbands?
Hang in there! Even if the food gets cold again because it needs to be photographed for Instagram first or if your darling has got very specific ideas about the interior of your flat again – simply inhale deeply and smile, hehe!
10. What was your favourite event, travel or project with CATS & DOGS so far?
The most beautiful event was the Shiseido one I talked about before. Without it, I wouldn’t be here with you right now!
Another impressive and unforgettable event was a travel to New York City with Urban Decay. We visited so many iconic places and met amazing new people. Inspiring!
Another great thing was the Mobile Photography Workshop in Berlin with Paul Ripke with Huawei and then, only a few months later, our trip to Spain, also with Huawei for a fashion photography workshop.
And finally, creating our first print feature together for Königsallee-Magazin Dusseldorf was really lovely, too!
