Travelling Light with Philips Lumea

Our next trip and why my luggage will be a little bit lighter than before.

Summer time means travel time – for many people around the globe, it is also the time for the one big summer vacation for which you tend to work all year long and are really looking forward to – finally, time to relax!

For me, who is spending more time abroad than at home in Dusseldorf, this whole travel thing is different. For me, travelling doesn’t necessarily mean holidays, even though we are of course experiencing many precious moments on our trips all around the world and for that, I’m utterly thankful. On the other hand, travelling also means a lot of work for us. Visiting other countries also means new shooting locations and press trips mean a lot of busy schedules and lots of planning. Very often, we are travelling with with half of our closet and also lots of heavy photo equipment. Then, I’ll also have to plan everything in detail, write long lists in order not to forget a small but important detail.

For our next trip, that is coming up really soon, we are again planning a couple of shootings – by the beach. I love beach shootings and especially, shooting bikinis and swimsuits is a personal summer favourite of mine. We will stay at our favourite hotel in Mallorca again and you know what I’m looking forward to the most? To the crystal clear Mediterranean sea. There is barely anything more beautiful than this if you ask me: just floating in the salty water with the sun shining down. And in the evening, we’re always going down to the port and I can’t wait for my next Paella – my favourite food when I’m in Spain and by the sea!

But also for this upcoming Mallorca trip, there is lots to be planned and I’m currently writing list over list so that I won’t forget anything. Locations, timings, clothes, equipment… you name it.

And that is also why I’m always happy about anything that I won’t have to remember. For example, there is one thing I’m aaalways forgetting: my shaver! Seriously, I can’t seem to remember taking it along and then, when I’m at our hotel, ready for the beach and the pool, I’m standing in the shower and can’t shave… oh dear!

And that is the reason why I have tried (nearly) everything concerning the removal of my body hair already: wet shaving, but as I told you, I’m always forgetting my shaver and this method also creates some irritations on my skin from time to time, epilation, but my sensitive skin also doesn’t really like that too much, either, waxing, but same story: too sensitive skin. Oh yeah, and I don’t trust those hair removal creams, they’re weird. And there we are, I think I’ve tried nearly everything already.

So, of course, I was really happy when Philips approached me and offered I could try their Philips Lumea Prestige* with IPL-technology. IPL means Intense Pulsed Light and promises long lasting hair removal with the help of light. Often, these kind of treatments are offered in cosmetic studios, but with Philips Lumea, I can now use IPL-technology easily in my own home.

The handy thing about Lumea Prestige is that, for the beginning phase, I will only have to do the treatment every 2 weeks for about 20 minutes each (for a full-body treatment) and after that for the following treatment, I will only have to do it every 3-4 weeks. In between, I won’t have to think about hair removal at all – perfect to keep my head free for the important things in life! Also, the treatment is pain-free and doesn’t cause any skin irritations. A slightly red skin right after the treatment is totally normal and will dissolve very quickly again.

Philips Lumea Prestige has different attachments for different areas of the body. There is a full-body attachment, which is especially suitable for arms and legs (but be careful if you are as inked as I am: you mustn’t ever use IPL-technology on tattoos!), an attachment which is especially formed for the bikini zone, one for the armpits and one for the face. The procedure in every region of the body is really easy and comfortable with the right attachment.

Good to know: all the different areas must be hair-free (shaved or epilated) before the procedure.

In order not to forget the next treatment time (it is really important to keep the right amount of time in between treatments), there is also an app for Philips Lumea Prestige. In this app, you will find a personalized plan for yourself and some tipps as well. I think it is very handy that the app reminds you of your next treatment – another thing I won’t have to remember, very good!

By the way, Philips Lumea isn’t for every skin type. If you have very dark skin or very light hair, the IPL-technology won’t work properly. For the best results, you have dark body hair and pretty light skin because the light can then react perfectly with the melanine in the hair itself.

For larger body parts, like arms or legs, there is also an extra mode called slide & flash. With this mode, you can slide over a skin area and Lumea Prestige will send light impulses along the way. In this way, you can treat larger areas a little faster. A very nice feature.

Have you heard of IPL and perhaps even of Philips Lumea Prestige? What do you think about this kind of hair removal and what kind of questions do you have concerning this topic? I will answer them all in the comments.

    Hab einen schönen Montag!
