On the invasion of the spiky succulents in the world of fashion.
My sweeties, cacti are nothing new. Of course they aren’t. They have existed on this earth long before us. But for a while now, they are omnipresent in the world of blogging and Instagram, no matter if it’s the actual plant or a print on a dress or shirt. One could say they are the new pineapples who were the previous most hyped thing, just before the cactus took over.
Even in some shows during Berlin Fashion Week, I could discover cacti in different variations (for example at the Steinrohner-show which was actually called “Cactus” or at Laurèl) in the form of cactus-print or applications. Anyway, I was quite excited to find out that the spiky plant is still gaining more and more lovers and I’m sure it’s gonna be oven more hyped, very soon.
But hey, why the heck? What is it about the cactus that we all love so much? The phallic shape is at least a bit obvious and the spiky outer skin of the plant isn’t exactly handy. But what is it then? Does the shape of the cactus make us dream of far away lands? Of holidays and adventure? Well, perhaps it simply is the minimalist shape that we all adore. It’s a cool shape, to say the least.
But because my personal taste kind of forbids big prints or applications, I turned towards the cactus colour-scheme in today’s outfit. In the way that I’m wearing khaki, white and black, it is anything but obvious that I’m wearing a cactus-inspired look, right? This styling is so minimal and cool that you could wear it at the office, for shopping or for afternoon beers with friends.
And I’m utterly thankful for the inspiration with the shooting location thanks to the sweet girls of Teetharejade. They just recently reminded me of the fact that the botanical gardens in Berlin hold the most beautiful backdrops for photos. Furthermore, Nisi just recently gave me proof that white jeans can actually look great, so that I gave it a try, too. It’s so wonderful to have such lovely girls and fantastic inspiration so close. Thank you, girls! Otherwise, I wouldn’t have taken Max to the botanical gardens so quickly… even though it is a place I’ve spent so many hours taking pictures at while I was still living in Berlin…
How do you like my outfit today and what do you think of the cactus-trend in general?? Let me know!
