One week ago, Max, I and Robert from Mr. Düsseldorf** drove to Switzerland together. On that 7.5 hours long trip, which Max took to himself as our driver, we became more and more excited about what we were to experience down in the Alps. I, personally, had never been to the Alps before, so I guess I was most excited of us all.
In Switzerland, we were invited to visit two exquisit hotels that, we believe, everyone needs to visit at least once in their lives. First up, I will write about the Ermitage, a beautiful hotel in the Berner Oberland, and afterwards, I will tell you all about the Beatus, ideally located by the Thunersee.
Perhaps, after having read this article to the end, you might want to visit these two hotels and the area as well. To tell you that much right at the beginning: I’d definitely suggest you do!
Ermitage Wellness- and Spa-Hotel
Gorgeously located in the Berner Oberland, we first got to discover the beautiful Ermitage Wellness- and Spa-Hotel near the city of Gstaad*. Here, Alpine grandezza mingles perfectly with pure relaxation. In the mornings, you may take the cable railway up to the mountain for a hike or some skiing, while you may relax in the wonderful sauna and spa area of the hotel in the afternoon. Perhaps a “Mountain Wellness”-massage would be just the right thing for you? No problem, simply book it beforehand.
The rooms of the hotel are breathtaking as well. Definitely classic in their style, yet with all modern facilities you could hope for. They are comfortably big and the large balcony offers a breathtaking view over the snowy mountains. Here, you may lounge for hours, enjoy the warm sunshine, get a tan and relax with a view of the mountains. And if you should ever get tired of this view, you can simply jump into your bathrobe and hop downstairs for a swim in one of the two lovely outdoor pools.
And in between all those activities and relaxation, you are food-wise always in for a treat. Thanks to the “3/4-Geniesser-Pension”, you may not only enjoy a hearty breakfast, a soup and salad lunch and and exquisit gourmet-dinner, you can also have cake in the afternoon! So, if you should ever have some tummy rumbles, there is definitely something very tasty to eat around the corner.
We really enjoyed the way we were eating as well. The hotel has different “Stuben”, which are several small rooms with different themes from traditional to modern. We were sat in the most beautiful of all the rooms, the Orangerie. A room full of plants and old 20ies furniture. We loved having breakfast and dinner there!
Beatus Wellness- and Spa-Hotel
Located directly by the Thunersee and framed by the most impressing mountains, we got to discover the Beatus Wellness- and Spa-Hotel Merligen*. A place with true riviera vibes which you’d much rather place in Italy than in the Swiss Alps! But there it is and we loved everything about this hotel from the first moment to the last.
In the surroundings of the Beatus, you can easily become active. Fancy a boat ride out on the lake? No problem, Volker will make it possible – even during sunrise with a breakfast on the lake. But you can also take a ride to the traditional city of Thun or visit Interlaken. A bus will easily take you back to the hotel afterwards. And yet another idea is to drive up into the mountains a little to catch a breathtaking view of the wonderful lake and the surrounding mountains… you see, there is lots to discover!
Just like at the Ermitage, you will enjoy the “3/4-Geniesser-Pension” at Beatus as well. You may have breakfast, Vitalità-lunch, cake in the afternoon and dinner. All of this is included in your room rate, but the hotel has their own Á-la-carte-Restaurant as well which is a must-try – the food is fantastic here! And if you have something special to celebrate, like a wedding anniversary, you can have a table set up by the small port next to the hotel which is utterly romantic and such a unique experience!
The spa and wellness-area at the Beatus include a 16 meter long indoor pool, an outdoor brine bath with an unforgettable view over the Thunersee and extended sauna areas which are a bliss for body and soul. At the Vitalità-Spa, we received a wonderful Zirben-Vitalmassage, which was deeply relaxing and just so good. Highly recommendable.
The rooms at Beatus are modern, bright and roomy. From the balcony with its summer colors you have a perfect view over the lake and the mountains and it’s also the perfect place to witness the most incredible sunsets. Later, after dinner, you can sit here with a glass of wine and look up at the stars and let me tell you, there are many to be seen as there is very little light pollution at the Thunersee…
I hope you have enjoyed my article about these two wonderful hotels. If you are interested in booking one of the two – or both – you can use the links provided in the article above.
PS.: of course, we’d never have gotten as comfortably to Switzerland without a strong partner for the ride. Thank you BMW Hans Brandenburg* for providing us with a BMW X2 that made the trip to the two hotels a fun ride, even after 7 long hours in the car.
