Domaine de Carraire – Relaxing in Provence

Unpaid ad: Press Visit

Today, I will talk about the first hotel on this year’s South of France trip. For 3 years now, we have been visiting this region in September and we are completely sure that in 10 years time, we will live in the South of France ourselves in a small house with garden and maybe pool. Until then, we will keep visiting this magical region between Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea as tourists and of course, we’ll keep posting about it.

This year’s trip was a nice round-trip through Provence with a route from Aix-en-Provence to Ménerbes to Les Baux-de-Provence and back. We flew in from Dusseldorf to Marseille and went back home the same way.

Domaine de Carraire – a very private piece of Provence

The first hotel on our route was the newly opened Domaine de Carraire*. A calm, relaxing oasis located close to Aix-en-Provence. Here, you feel at home right away and never wanna leave again. The house with pool and big garden is a countryside dream come true and makes you want to stay all summer long. The rooms, complete with kitchen, make it possible to cook for yourself (or you just oder some food ;)) and since there are not too many guests at the same time, the overall atmosphere is truly calm and relaxing.

But without a car, you wouldn’t get far around this place as the location is very rural and not too close to the city center. But if you have rented a car, you’ll be more than happy to enjoy the calm and relaxing countryside atmosphere. There is no better place to unwind and calm down than at Domaine de Carraire.

The Pool

Behind the wonderful sand stone house, you’ll find your hot spot to relax and enjoy the last warm late summer sun rays. The pool is cozy and calm as it is nestled in sand stone walls of the building and plants. It is a place to fully engage in calmness and relaxation. I felt so happy and warm right there – I never wanted to leave my cozy spot anymore.

By the way, if you are planning a stay at Domaine de Carraire for next year, you’ll get to enjoy a fully renovated pool as this project is planned for the upcoming winter months. But for us, the pool was already nice as it was, so no reason to complain!

The Studio

Our studio, named “Paul”, was located in the first floor of the building. On this floor, there are only 2 other rooms, so all in all, you feel wonderfully private during your stay. The interior of the studio was a wonderful mix of modernist minimalism and natural material. The design even reminded me of our Cape Town room/house two years ago with all the sandy and wood colours and natural material.

The super new kitchen was big enough to prepare coffee in the morning and fun cooking sessions in the evening. In fact, it was bigger than our kitchen at home, haha. The bathroom was just as new, minimalist and bright. The whole studio is perfect for a couple, as it is spacious but still super cozy, stylish and friendly.

The Garden

From the entrance, a small driveway leads to the parking area. Following a set of small steps, you’ll enter the area in front of the house where a couple of chairs and tables invite you to sit and enjoy your time, talking and drinking wine. It was actually a cozy place to have outdoor dinners as well.

Behind the house, you’ll find the super cozy and beautiful pool I’d already talked about and next to it and behind, a big field with a lane to play Boules (which we did and I won, haha). Another lovely thing were the two fig trees that grew on the property. They were already ripe and super yummy!

During the night, we got up once to try out astro photography again and it kind of worked (despite the bright moon being too bright – again!). We took some lovely pictures of the stars, nonetheless, because there is very little light pollution in this area.

This calm and beautifully located place is the ideal spot to calm down and relax, restore and gather new strength for your everyday-life. This is also kind of what I imagine our future house to look like. Have you ever been to Provence, before? And if so, how did you like it?

Traumhaft schöner Ort! Ich war noch nie in der Provence, sondern immer eher Richtung Spanien im Urlaub, aber deine Berichte machen Lust auf Südfrankreich.

    Liebe Grüße, Elena
