These are strange times, indeed and the situation with COVID-19 is dynamic and absolutely unforeseeable. Especially, for us as travel bloggers, it hasn’t been easy to travel at all since March 2020 and to be anywhere else but home. And that is totally okay, of course – it has even made us feel very humble and helped us understand that all the privilege of travel that we had is something to be so grateful for. We will never take travel for granted like we did before the pandemic, anymore.
But we were so happy that, even during these strange times, we were able to travel to France in July and that in October, TUI Cruises* invited us on one of their big ships again – this time, the Mein Schiff 6, to see how life aboard the ship is working during Corona and and how it felt almost like a “normal” cruise thanks to their specially designed 10-steps-plan.
From having to take a mandatory Corona-test before the drip over having to wear a mask during the trip to Greece to obligatory distance rules in floors and elevators on the ship, everything had been taken care of. Buffets had service personnel giving out the food and you had to wash and disinfect your hands before entering any restaurant, bar or the gym. Even the daily temperature measurement became totally normal after a couple of days and we quickly felt at home again on the cruise ship.
We definitely felt safer aboard the Mein Schiff 6 than in our local supermarket or tram.
And so, we had the chance to enjoy a super relaxing week surrounded by the sea under the warm, late summer Greek sun. Since the ship was only booked with one third or the guests, there was always a space by the pool and keeping that mandatory space was very easy. We didn’t miss anything on this trip, it was simply perfect. Exactly like last year, before Corona, all the restaurants, the gym, the Spa and Sauna, the children’s daycare and the pools were opened. We could even watch theatre shows and concerts – with space and fixed seats but with a lot of entertainment!
Furthermore, we even had the chance to leave the ship for shore excursions organized by TUI (for security reasons, it was not allowed to leave the ship on your own, but that was totally okay for us). We chose a 4,5 hour long hike through the amazing nature of Corfu with a refreshing finale at the Mediterranean Sea! A wonderful change from relaxing on the ship.
We can really recommend the “Blaue Reisen” with TUI Cruises a lot if you simply want to relax for a bit, have some true holidays and still feel just as safe (if not safer) as you would at home. This trip was definitely the most relaxing one in this crazy year of 2020 and we can’t wait for the next cruise!
By the way, you’ll find another article on our trip with the Mein Schiff 6 on the Mein Schiff Blog by TUI Cruises, as well.
