5 perfect backdrops for taking pictures

Places to take really cool pictures – with lots of examples!

If you’re only half as excited about taking beautiful pictures as I am, you’ll know that the backdrop is at least as important as the model (in this case myself, hehe). And here, it doesn’t matter if you’re looking to take new outfit pictures for your own blog or if you’re just excited to take new pictures for yourself. But finding the right spot to shoot isn’t always so easy, but it is a nice job after all to go location-spotting in your city or elsewhere (perhaps during your holidays).

So, just to make it a little easier for you guys to find some new and beautiful locations, I’ve made a list of the

5 perfect backdrops for taking pictures

because no matter how nice a grey concrete wall or a lovely door can be, sometimes all you need is a bit of change to make your looks stand out! Enjoy this little list!

1. At the botanical garden

Advantages: Especially in the greenhouses, you’ll find lovely light (since most of the windows are seldomly being cleaned) and beautiful plants surrounding you, like in this outfit here.

Disadvantages: Unfortunately, botanical gardens can’t be found in every city and if so, they are usually a bit further away from the center and only accessible by train or car. And those gardens usually also cost an entrance fee. But that is totally worth it!

2. At the sea and the beach

Advantages: The sea offers you lovely sunsets, beautiful waves and fine sand. All that looks lovely on pictures and offers a great alternative to the everyday-grey of the cities. It always gives away holiday-vibes which we all love. I am especially excited about the ocean and the beach, as you can see in this relaxed outfit by the sea quite nicely!

Disadvantages: It’s always windy at the sea, so you might just forget styling your hair in a nice and sleek way right away. Furthermore, your beach could be very crowded by people sleeping in the sun all day. Try to find a quiet and calm spot, even if it means walking a little distance. Oh, and I forgot, you’ll also have to travel to the sea, first… damn!

3. At the park or in the forest

Advantages: Parks and little forests can be found in almost every city and are usually located nearby. Some parks offer more than one lovely location for shooting pics, too. A forest on the other hand holds even more of that magic below the trees, just have a look at my forest-shoot from last year.

Disadvantages: Not too many, except perhaps that the light during daytime and under the trees isn’t the easiest to shoot with. Perhaps choose a cloudy day or shoot at the golden hour in the evening, it will look much better than having light spots on your face.

4. At a local festival or amusement park

Advantages: The location from today’s post is absolutely stunning, crazy and colourful! I wouldn’t want that much colour in all of my posts, but it makes for a lovely change from time to time and makes your outfit really stand out – taken it fits the location at least a little bit.

Disadvantages: The biggest problem are the visitors. Better shoot before or after the start of the daily business. And also hope that the people working there will be fine with you shooting in front of their stalls, big wheels etc..

5. At the pool

Advantages: The blue colour offers a great contrast to your outfit and the whole set of pictures will simply scream summer, vacation and easy-livin’! Just have a look at my pictures from the pool at our hotel in Majorca. It’s also just so much fun shooting in the sun at the pool – if it’s warm enough, you can jump in right afterwards.

Disadvantages: Many public pools are not happy with you shooting there with a professional camera. Also, people looking to relax there are often feeling harrassed by someone snapping pics even if it’s 10 metres away. So better ask everyone around first if it’s okay if you only took pics of yourselves and nobody else.

Okay my dearies, I hope you’ve enjoyed my ideas of cool shooting locations and perhaps, for your next set of photos, you’ll try something different and exciting so that you’ll love your own pics even more than before! If you liked this list, please let me know in the comments and share your own favourite location spots?!
