Of smartphone-photography, a collaboration with Leica and a real funny guy!
My sweeties, this past Thursday, Max and I flew to Berlin again, this time to take part in a really cool workshop. German star photographer Paul Ripke took the time to spend a whole afternoon with us, telling us all about himself and his work, let us ask lots of questions and also presented two new HUAWEI smartphones (the HUAWEI P9* and the larger HUAWEI Mate 9*), which are equipped with dual-lenses which have been co-engineered by HUAWEI and Leica. Thanks to this innovation, taking pictures with this phone is even more fun and the quality of the pictures is just so much better!
Paul also explained to us many different things about photography like symmetry and the perfect portrait. We even lay on the floor, taking pictures or we held our phone upside down – just to change our perspective for ones. That was amazing and something really new!
For all of you who don’t know Paul Ripke yet – he spent a lot of time with the German soccer team in Rio when they won the world championship. It’s one of the things that made him famous in Germany, anyway. He’s also quite big on Instagram, do check him out there!
But all the time, while taking his amazing pictures, he’s only ever using his Leica cameras and nothing else. This makes him look like a normal guy and not like a professional photographer which is fantastic because it gives him the chance to enter areas, where normal press photographers would never be allowed in. He’s just “a friend of this famous guys” and suddenly, he’s in and can take super personal and close pictures. I guess this is what makes him and his work special. But that is also why HUAWEI chose him for their collaboration*, because he’s a Leica-photographer and HUAWEI is using Leica co-engineered dual-lenses in their P9 and Mate 9 phones.
I’ve also made a little video of Paul Ripke talking, but it’s only in German – sorry, guys! But do enjoy the pictures!
